visby short haired grey sheepskin

£358.00

Shepherd Visby is a classic short-haired Gotland sheepskin. Each sheepskin is completly unique therefore there can be variations in hue, appearence. The back of the sheepskin is natural, un-coloured leather.

100cm x 60cm

Sheepskin absorbs water and doesn’t necessarily need to be washed. A good result will be obtained by shaking and airing outdoors in high humidity. The water vapour will pass through the skin and remove dirt particles and odours. Natural sheepskin with lanolin has a self cleaning effect if left to hang in the air. It absorbs sweat and releases it into air much faster than synthetic materials. Self-regulating in terms of temperature, making it excellent for summer and Winter.

Remember that sheepskin is dirt repellant so shaking and airing now and then in high humidity can be sufficient. To clean sheepskin, use lukewarm water and a mild detergent, or use cleaning products designed just for sheepskin. After cleaning stretch and rub the skin when damp. Let it then dry in a warm room, but never next to or over a radiator. To restore the shine, brushing with a soft brush is recommended.

Shepherd of sweden specialise in creating sheepskin products.

Since starting the business in 1982, their experience has enabled them to establish and maintain a consistently high standard across all of our products. Every step of the process – selecting the best skins, preparing them, and finally sewing them in their own workshop guarantees the highest quality.

They take responsibility for the entire process, from the preparation of the raw skin to the finished product. They buy our sheep and lamb skins from countries such as Australia, New Zealand, England, Sweden, Norway and Iceland.

The leather used is a by-product of the meat industry. They select skins for our production based on key criteria including wool density, wool structure and leather quality.

Animal welfare is as important to Shepherd as the quality of approved Shepherd product. They, therefore, place high demands on all our partners, in order to ensure that animal wellfare is paramount. This includes making random checks and visits to all of their suppliers.

They require all suppliers to maintain and follow our “Shepherd Code Of Animal Treatment”:

– The sheep shall always have good access to food and water. They shall be kept in an environment that is natural for them. They shall have constant supervision and be otherwise cared for so that the animals’ health is promoted and unnecessary suffering is avoided.

-They do not allow any breeder to make use of mulesing.

-They do not permit animals to be transportes by boat.

When you buy a Shepherd product, you know it has been created with care.
